The Research Dialogue

This study explores the interplay of tradition and modernity in the narrative traditions of Ruskin Bond and Vijaydan Detha, two distinguished writers who represent diverse cultural and literary landscapes of India. While Ruskin Bond’s works portray the changing social realities of modern India through simple yet profound narratives rooted in everyday life, Vijaydan Detha revitalizes traditional Rajasthani folk tales by infusing them with contemporary concerns related to gender, social justice, and human freedom. Through a comparative analysis of selected texts, this study examines how both writers negotiate the relationship between inherited cultural values and emerging modern sensibilities. It highlights their shared commitment to preserving cultural heritage while addressing contemporary issues. The study argues that their narratives serve as important literary spaces where tradition and modernity coexist, interact, and evolve, contributing significantly to the richness and diversity of Indian narrative traditions.
