Abstract

The present research paper examines the significant role of translation in promoting the Rajasthani language within the evolving framework of Indian literary discourse. In a multilingual nation like India, translation serves not merely as a linguistic activity but as a powerful medium of cultural exchange, literary circulation, and identity formation. The study explores how the translation of Rajasthani literary works into languages such as Hindi and English has contributed to the visibility and recognition of regional literature at national and global levels. It further investigates the ways in which translation helps preserve indigenous traditions, folk narratives, oral histories, and cultural memory embedded in Rajasthani literature. The paper also highlights the challenges associated with translating regional expressions, idioms, and cultural nuances while maintaining authenticity and aesthetic richness. By analyzing selected translated texts and the contributions of translators, the study argues that translation functions as a transformative agency that bridges linguistic barriers and strengthens India’s pluralistic literary culture. Ultimately, the paper emphasizes that the inclusion of Rajasthani literature through translation enriches contemporary Indian literary discourse and promotes cultural inclusivity and linguistic diversity.
