The Research Dialogue

Abstract

Education has always been an important societal force, particularly in geographic areas where economic disparities and cultural diversities are entrenched. This paper synthesises theoretical concepts, empirical research and practical case studies from India, Bangladesh, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia using a variety of mixed method approaches while being theoretically rigorous, empirically rich and practically relevant.

Commenting that in fact, what is being undertaken right now in the schools of various Asian countries represents a novel phenomenon in transformation distinguishing them from western nations with their concentration on contextually embedded pedagogical practicers, joint actions and community participation. Asia is progressive to the nature of education, moving towards a new era in terms of pedagogy innovations that shape a kind of imbricated system to address needs for diverse learners: technology-progressive, culturally responsive and experiential learning. Respectively, family and community engagement is the key manner in which schools and educational institutions join with families’ grassroots organizations in civil society to promote access, relevance and accountability.

Inclusive practices, particularly around gender equity, rural communities as well as linguistic minorities and learners with disabilities also demonstrate how education can act as a mechanism for social equity.

Based on policy frameworks, grassroots projects, and institutional reforms, this paper highlights the successes as well as the sustained challenges towards educational change in Asia. It concludes that without alignment of such innovative pedagogy, participatory community engagement and inclusive policy implementation with one another sustainable social transformation through education will remain a distant reality.
