Abstract:

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes the revitalization and global dissemination of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) by integrating India’s rich intellectual, philosophical, scientific, and cultural traditions into contemporary education. Translation Studies plays a pivotal role in this process by facilitating the transfer of classical and regional knowledge across linguistic and cultural boundaries. Through the translation of texts from Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit, Persian, Tamil, and other Indian languages into modern Indian and international languages, translation enhances accessibility, inclusivity, and interdisciplinary learning. It also promotes multilingualism, preserves indigenous knowledge, and fosters cross-cultural understanding in line with the objectives of NEP 2020. Furthermore, translation serves as a bridge between traditional wisdom and modern academic discourse, enabling wider national and global engagement with India’s knowledge heritage. Thus, Translation Studies emerges as a strategic tool for preserving, disseminating, and recontextualizing Indian Knowledge Systems in the twenty-first century.
